DHAKA: Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader defended himself as the party chief after Presidium member Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud declared Cochairman Rowshan Ershad to hold the same post.   

"Hussain Muhammad Ershad replaced himself by me as per the party constitution which was approved at the Presidium meeting. So, I'm the chairman of Jatiya Party," GM Quader told a press briefing at his Banani office Thursday (September 5).

He warned that action will be taken as per the party constitution against those spoiled discipline.

Earlier in the day, Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud announced Ershad's wife also deputy leader of the opposition at the parliament Rowshan Ershad as JP chairman in a press briefing held at her Gulshan residence, in a blow to GM Quader. 

He also called upon GM Quader to step down from chairman post to assume as cochairman.
