DHAKA: The ruling Awami League will start selling the party’s nomination papers for the Rangpur-3 by-election from Monday (September 2).
The nomination papers selling will continue till Wednesday (September 5).
A press release signed by the Awami League office secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap released the information On Sunday (September 1).
According to the release, the nomination papers can be collected from the political office of the Awami League President Sheikh Hasina in city’s Dhanmondi area from 10am to 5pm on September 2-4.
Next, the application forms for the nomination should be submitted at the same place by 5 pm on Thursday (September 5).
The by-election to the Rangpur-3 constituency that fell vacant for the death of Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad will be held on October 5 using the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).
Additional Secretary of the Election Commission Md Mokhlesur Rahman announced the election schedule at a press conference on Sunday (September 1) at the media center of Agargaon Election Bhaban in the capital.
He said that voting at the vacant seat will be held from 9am to 5pm on October 5.
According to the announced schedule, the last date for filing nomination papers is September 9, and scrutiny of nomination papers on September 11. And the candidacy can be withdrawn till September 16.
The parliamentary seats fell vacant after the death of Jatiya Party chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad on July 14.
