Muzaffar's first janaza held at JS South Plaza

DHAKA: The first namz-e-janaza of National Awami Party (Pro-Moscow-NAP) President Prof Muzaffar Ahmed was held at South Plaza of National Parliament Complex Saturday (August 24).  

The janaza prayer was performed at 11am.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, CPB President Mujahidul Islam Selim and Workers' Party President Rashed Khan Menon, among others, took part in the prayer.

Afterwards, Prof Muzaffar Ahmed was given a guard of honour.

NAP Acting General Secretary Ismail Hossain then read out the biography of the deceased politician.

However, the body will be taken to Central Shaheed Minar at 12pm from NAP office, to place tribute.

The second namaz-e-janaza will be held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Asr prayer.

The veteran politician will be buried in Debidwar upazila of Cumilla Sunday (August 25). 

Prof Muzaffar Ahmed died at Apollo Hospital around 7:45pm Friday (August 23) while undergoing treatment. He was 97.

He served as an adviser to the Mujibnagar Government during the Liberation War in 1971.

He played significant role in anti-British Movement, Language Movement and the Liberation War.
