HC asks Shimul Biswas to surrender

DHAKA: The High Court asked Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, special assistant of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, to surrender to a lower court within two weeks in a case for obstructing police from discharging their government duties.

The HC bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan on Monday (July 15) passed the order after rejecting his bail petition.

Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas was accused in a case for obstructing police from discharging their government duty from a procession during court appearance of BNP chief Khaleda Zia in a graft case on November 16, 2017.

Defense lawyer Masud Rana said the case was filed with the Shahbagh Police Station. There was no name of Shimul Biswas in the ejahar.

Later on November 20, 2012, his name came in the charge sheet. Later, he appealed to the High Court for bail in this case.

Earlier on May 4, Shimul Biswas was released from jail on bail, nearly 15 months after his arrest in the cases filed against him.
