DHAKA: Electioneering for Monday’s (June 24) by-polls in Bogura-6 constituency ended Saturday amid hectic last-minute campaigns by the candidates in different areas of the constituency.
Voting will begin around 9 am and continue till 5 pm without any break. Electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used in the constituency.
Vehicular movement has been restricted in the voting areas after 12:00am on Sunday (June 23).
The Election Commission (EC) has already sent its directives as per the Representation of the People Order to the officers’ concerned, including returning officer.
According to Article 78 of the Representation of the People Order-1972, 48 hours before the start of the polling and 48 hours after the end of the polling (from 9 am on June 22 to 5pm on June 26) rally and procession can not be held in the electoral areas of the constituency.
As per restriction on vehicle plying, the ban on movement of taxi cab, baby taxi/auto rickshaw, microbus, zip, pickup, car, bus, truck, tempo, launch, easy bike, engine boat and speed boat in the election areas will be applicable from the day before the polling day (12:00am on June 23) till voting day ( June 24) midnight.
The last day campaigns in the Bogura constituency got momentum as all the candidates made door-to-door visits and conducted campaigns.
All major candidates passed very busy hours moving from door to door in the constituency.
The candidates are Awami League nominated SMT Zaman Niketta, BNP nominated Golam Mohammad Siraj, Jatiya Party nominated Nurul Islam Omar, Mansur Rahman of Bangladesh Congress, Rafiqul Islam of Bangladesh Muslim League, Independent candidate Former General Secretary of Bogra District Motor Workers Union Syed Kabir Ahmed Mithu and businessman Minhaz.
The parliamentary seat was declared vacant on April 30 as BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir did not take oath as Member of Parliament after being elected from the constituency in the December-30 general election.
