Didn’t take oath for strategic reasons: Fakhrul Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir

DHAKA:  BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who was elected from Bogra-6 constituency, said he did not take oath as a member of the 11th national parliament as per party decision.

The senior BNP leader came up with the disclosure while speaking as a chief guest at a discussion titled ‘Human life on the verge of death valley/ Nusrat is a protest,’ in  National Press Club on Tuesday (April 30).

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “Rumors have surfaced that I sought time to take oath as an MP from Bogra-6 constituency. Actually, I did not send any letters to the speaker. I did not seek time. This is also our party decision. It’s our strategy.”

“We went to the parliament after watching world politics not by speaking to foreigners.  BNP leaders have taken the oath to defeat the monster by using the opportunity to talk in the parliament,” he also said.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said no compromise has occurred with the government, adding that “If Khaleda Zia opted for compromise; she would now be Prime Minister. She never compromised regarding the policy.”

Ruling out any agreement with the government, Mirza Fakhrul said that if we want negotiation, it had done long ago. Now Khaleda Zia was the prime minister if she got the deal. She never compromised regarding the principle.
