SIRAJGANJ: Police arrested Sirajganj Municipality Unit Awami League Joint General Secretary in a case filed on extortion charges.

The arrestee Nazrul Islam alias Hashem Pana was admitted to a private hospital after he had fallen sick following the arrest Friday (April 19) noon.

He is a resident of Malshapara colony of the town. 

Hashem and his followers demanded extortion money from one Yusuf Ali, a sand trader from Puthia area of Shahjadpur upazila, said Sirajganj Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Rafiqul Islam.

The trader was even given death threat.

Afterwards, Yusuf Ali filed a case with the Sadar Police Station accusing three persons including Hashem and 15-20 unnamed others.  

Hashem will be sent to jail through court, said the Inspector.
