Presiding officer held over irregularities

DHAMRAI (Dhaka): Police detained presiding officer over various irregularities including casting fake votes in the fourth phase upazila polls to Dhamrai upazila parishad in Dhaka on Sunday (March 31).

The detainee is Abul Bashar Badsah, newly elected vice chairman of Saturia Upazila of Manikganj, nominated by Jatiya Party.

Bashar was presiding officer at Kandapotol Government Primary School polling centre and the head teacher at Aamsimur Sesib Model High School in Dhamrai area.

Contacted, Executive Magistrate Pronab Kumar Ghos told Banglanews that presiding officer Abul Bashar Badsah was held on allegation of various irregularities in the upazila parisha election. 

Legal action would be taken against him after investigation, he added.

Counting of ballots begun as voting in fourth phase of the 5th upazila parishad elections ended in 107 upazilas amid tight security measures Sunday (March 31).

The balloting started at 8am and continued till 4pm, without any break.
