TANGAIL: Police arrested two persons including an assistant presiding officer over casting fake votes in the polls to Basail upazila parishad in Tangail Sunday (March 31).

The arrestees are—Rashed Hridoy, 25, a resident of Kanchanpur Sonka Para and Parveen Sultana, the head teacher at Syedampur Govt Primary School.

Parveen Sultana was employed as an assistant presiding officer at the polling station installed at Dakshin Para area of the upazila. 

Rashed was casting fake votes for ‘boat’ symbol. He was arrested with 10 ballot papers. He casted almost 48 votes, said presiding officer Kanak Kanti Debnath.

Rashed collected the ballot papers from Parveen Sultana. Therefore, she was arrested for helping fake voting.

The duo were sent to mobile court, added Kanak Kanti Debnath.
