DHAKA: Chamber court of the Appellate Division has stayed the six-month bail earlier granted by the High Court to former Awami League MP Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in a case filed over killing freedom fighter Faruq Ahmed.

On Monday (Mar 25), Chamber Judge Justice Hasan Foez Siddique stayed the bail till March 31, following an appeal from the state and sent the appeal to full court for hearing.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved for the state while Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ullah stood for the state and lawyer Sayeed Ahmed Raja for Rana, at the courtroom.

Earlier on March 14, Rana was granted bail for six months by the HC in freedom fighter Faruq murder case.

On the same day, another Chamber court of the Appellate Division stayed HC bail order to ex-MP Rana in a case filed over killing two Jubo League leaders.

Rana surrendered to the Tangail additional district and session's judge court on September 18, 2016 ending his 22-month fugitive run in the freedom fighter murder case.

After surrender, a Tangail court sent Rana to jail in the case.

The AL leader went into 'hiding' after he was accused of killing freedom fighter and member of district unit AL Faruk Ahmed.

On Jan 18 in 2013, freedom fighter and Awami League's Tangail District Committee member Faruk Ahmed was shot dead. Later a case was filed in this connection accusing MP Rana and others.

Later, Faruk's wife Nahar Ahmed filed a case in this connection.

Fourteen people, including four brothers of Tangail's influential Khan Family, were made accused in the murder case.
