Voting at 3 Sirajganj centers halted over irregularities

SIRAJGANJ: Voting at three centers, including two in Shahjadpur upazila, has been postponed on allegations of irregularities on Sunday (Mar 10) while voters are casting ballots to elect their representatives in 78 upazila parishads.

of those, Returning Officer (RO) has suspended the voting at the centers set up at Sriphaltola Girl High School and Koijuri Muhibur Rahman Dakhil Madrasa at 11:30am, hours after voting has begun while at Mahmudpur Governemnt Primary School in Sadar upazila early on Sunday, hours before voting began.

Sirajganj RO Md Abul Hossain told Banglanews that upon an allegation that a gang  of miscreants captured the Koijuri Muhibur Rahman Dakhil Madrasa center and started stuffing ballots illegally, voting here has been suspended.

Besides, voting at Sriphaltola Girl High School has been postponed as votes have been cast more than turnout of voters.

However, as per presiding officer’s written allegation that local influential people with the nexus of two assistant presiding officers (APO) were pressurizing him to stuff ballots at night, hours before voting began.

In theses circumstances, he expressed his doubt about fair voting at the center. And then, RO has postponed voting at Mahmudpur Governemnt Primary School center.

Alleged APOs Abdul Alim and Belal Hossian have been detained and after investigation, department action would be taken against them. PO Md Anwar Hossian also faced interrogation, said RO Md Abul Hossain.
