DHAKA: ICT Affairs Adviser to Awami League President Sheikh Hasina Sajeeb Wazed Joy criticized the Western news outlets for their perspective while covering the 11th national elections of Bangladesh.

Terming them ‘biased’, he made several posts on his Facebook page Monday (Dec 31) night.

“The Western media tried to blame Awami League for the polls-violence of yesterday. But who were killed, most of them were leaders and activists of Awami League. The terrorists of BNP-Jamaat also have shot dead a on-duty police officer at a polling station. CNN and BBC should feel ashamed for such biased attitude. #BiasedWesternMedia,” he captioned a news item shared on his page.

“It is much disappointing that the Western media CNN and BBC News focused our elections in a wrong pattern,” Joy wrote in another post.

“Almost all foreign observers have issued statements that the elections were orderly, fair and mostly peaceful,” he stated in another post.

“Western media such as CNN, BBC News and others have as usual completely ignored Bangladeshi news reports, all our party's and the Election Commission's statements, as well as the reports of all foreign observers. The only things they have reported on are the few irregularities which have already been dealt with, the opposition's false allegations and the biased statements from ANFREL and the US Embassy regarding denial of visas for the ANFREL delegation led by the former Deputy Assistant General of the opposition. This is very disappointing and unfair,” he added.
