DHAKA: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader termed the demand of Jatiya Oikyafront for deferment of polls again as absurd and irrelevant. 

A state can not defer Election Day because of some foreign observer who can not come in time due to personal reason. Deferral of polls schedule for foreign observers is a ridiculous, irrelevant, baseless and illogical ground, he said. 

Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, made the remarks to reporters at party president Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office on Tuesday (Nov 13).

Earlier the Election Commission deferred the voting day to Dec 30 from Dec 23 following opposition parties’ demand. However, the EC’s one week deferral could not satisfy Jatiya Oikyafront leaders as they are still pushing for a one month delay. 

AL secretary also said people will prevent if anyone tries to form movement at his point. “Starting from the polls schedule announcement, EC is responsible for all election related decisions. We have nothing to do here,” he added.
