20 bullet-hit in BNP protesters-cop clash in Habiganj

HABIGANJ: At least 35 persons were injured while 20 sustained bullet injuries as the leaders and activists of BNP engaged in a clash with policemen during a protest in Habiganj demanding immediate release of Khaleda Zia.

Local sources said that the BNP protesters invloved in a clash with the law enforcers after being obstructed to bring out a rally led by Habiganj district unit BNP secretary general also the municipality mayor GK Gous, on Tuesday noon (February 20).

Some 35 were hurt whereas 20 of them including the district unit Jubo Dal secretary general Elias received bullet wounds. 

Habiganj sadar police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Easinul Haq told Banglanews that the angry protesters tried to create anarchy while police were trying to keep the situation peaceful. Afterwards, police fired 54 rounds of bullets. 

However, the BNP men alleged that police baton-charged and fired rubber bullets at them.

Police nabbed Gk Gous and later released him.

However, BNP protests were marked in Rajshahi, Faridpur and Brahmanbaria demanding immediate and unconditional release of their party chief Khaleda Zia who was recently jailed for five years by a special court of Dhaka in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
