DHAKA: A Dhaka court has granted remand in different terms for 58 BNP activists and leaders including party’s information secretary Azizul Bari Helal in three separate cases filed with Ramna and Shahbag police stations.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ahsan Habib passed the order on Thursday (February 1) after police made appear 70 people including Helal in court and appealed for 10 days remand.
Of the 58 accused, 31 put on 5-day remand, 26 put on 2-day remand and one placed on one day remand.
The court also sent 12 accused, who are women, to jail denying police’s remand appeal.
The three cases were filed over the attack on police members and a prison van by BNP men in front of the High Court on Tuesday afternoon when BNP chief Khaleda Zia was leaving the court after her hearing in a graft case. BNP men also snatched two of their fellows after vandalizing the prison van.
