Khaleda pays homage to Zia

DHAKA: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia Sunday paid homage to General Ziaur Rahman, founder of the BNP, through placing floral wreath at his tomb marking the 35th anniversary of the party.

The leader of the opposition and widow of Zia placed a floral wreath at Zia’s grave at about 11:00am and offered fateha.

The leaders and activists of the party started thronging the Mazar premises from 10:00 am.

BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Goyesshwar Chandra Roy, Dr. Moin Khan, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia and others paid homage to Zia by placing floral wreath at the grave.

The party is observing its founding anniversary across the country by chalking out various programmes.

Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Olama Dal held a Milad and Doa Mahfil on this occasion.

The leaders-activists gathered at the Mazar premises with banner, festoons and they also chanted many anti-government slogans.

On the other hand, Doctor’s Association of Bangladesh (DAB) cancelled their program in front of BNP’s Naya Paltan central office as police did not give permission.
