HC edict: donÔÇÖt arrest or harass MP Shaon

DHAKA:  The High Court forbade law-enforcers to harass or arrest Awami League lawmaker Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shaon, sued in the case of murder of his party leader Ibrahim, until the start of the trial.

An HC bench comprising Justice Mohammad Shamsul Huda and Justice Abu Bakkar Siddique came up with the order of interim immunity as the ruling-party MP in person appeared before the court and appealed for legal protection from “harassment”.

Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun, also a presidium member of the AL, moved for the petitioner and Deputy Attorney-General Mohammad Bashir Ullah for the state.

A local Awami League Leader and probable city corporation councilor candidate from DCC Ward No 56, Ibrahim died from a pistol shot in Sangsad Bhaban area on August 13. It was reportedly the MP’s licensed pistol.
Victim’s brother Masum Ahmed filed a murder case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court implicating the ruling-party lawmaker as the main accused.

The court directed the law-enforcing agencies to investigate the case.
