Remove PintuÔÇÖs name from BDR carnage chargesheet, Delwar asks government...

DHAKA: BNP Secretary-General Khondaker Delwar Hossain demanded that the name of party leader Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu be dropped from the charge sheet on the BDR carnage at Pilkhana.

Addressing a press conference at BNP central office Tuesday, a day after the charges of mutiny-time crimes were pressed against 824 BDR members and civilian suspects, he also demanded of the government to release him “immediately”.

The opposition party likened the charge sheet to ‘fairy tales’ as the Secretary-General said implication of Pintu’s name in the charge sheet was part of a conspiracy to save the culprits.

He alleged domestic and international conspiracies behind the Feb 25-26, 2009 BDR mutiny that ruined the headquarters of the border force and spilled over to other garrisons across the country.

“It was a conspiracy to destroy our armed forces,” Delwar said, adding: “They (present government) are governing the country at somebody else’s dictate.”

Delwar deplored that two probe bodies were formed to investigate the mutiny but their reports were not made public.

BNP Standing Committee Member MK Anwar, Tariqul Islam and Nazrul Islam Khan were present at the news conference.
