Eid-ul-Azha holiday won’t be extended: Cabinet secy

DHAKA: The government has decided not to extend the holiday for Eid-ul-Azha amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam made the development in a press briefing after the virtual cabinet meeting at secretariat in Dhaka on Monday afternoon (July 13).

Responding to a query of a journalist, the secretary said: “Eid holiday will be a regular three-day vacation as scheduled previously. It won’t be extended further.”

Moreover, government officials and employees were directed not to leave workplaces during Eid, he said.

Eid-ul-Azha, the second biggest religious festival of the Muslims, will be celebrated across the country on July 31 or August 1 depending on the moon sighting.

However, government, semi-government and private offices opened on May 31 following a long 66-day general holidays declared countrywide due to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
