JKG Chairman Dr Sabrina put on 3-day remand

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Monday (July 13) granted a three-day remand for Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury, chairman of JKG Health Care, who was arrested yesterday in a case filed over issuing fake coronavirus test certificates.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman passed the order after police produced her before the court with a four-day remand plea.

Sources at the National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Monday morning said all personal and institutional bank accounts of Dr Sabrina has also been frozen by the agency.

Police arrested Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury, wife of JKG Health Care’s CEO Arif Chowdhury, following an interrogation at the office of Tejgaon deputy commissioner of DMP on Sunday (July 12).

Later in the day, she was also suspended from his post as a physician at National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, said an order signed by Md Abdul Mannan, secretary of Health Service Division under Health Ministry.  

Earlier on June 23, Tejgaon police detained six people including Arif over allegations of issuing fake coronavirus certificates and collecting money from patients. 

According to allegations, JKG Health care charged Tk 5000 from Bangladeshi patients and USD 100 from foreign nationals for each Covid-19 test certificates.
