147 Italy returnees sent to Ashkona Hajj camp for quarantine

DHAKA: A total of 147 Bangladeshis, who were deported from Rome Airport on suspicion of Covid 19 infections, have been sent to the Hajj camp in Dhaka’s Ashkona for quarantine.

They arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka by a Qatar Airways flight on Friday morning (July 10).

From there, they were sent to Hajj camp upon completing immigration procedures.

Confirming the matter to Banglanews, Airport Director Group Captain HM Towhid-ul-Hasan said: “After regular health checkup at the airport, they were handed over to Directorate General of Health Services. The directorate then sent them to institutional quarantine.”

Some 147 Bangladesh nationals, deported from Italy Airport, have been sent to the Hajj camp in city's Ashkona for institutional quarantine.

A total of 147 Bangladeshis, who returned from Rome airport by a Qatar Airways flight on Friday morning after they were denied entry into Italy suspecting that they might have been corona infected, were quarantined at Ashkona Hajj camp in Dhaka.

Army official Mostofa Kamal, in-charge of Ashkona Hajj camp quarantine, said no symptoms of coronavirus were found among the returnees in the primary scanning. Now, whether the returnees will be tested for Covid 19 or not will be decided according to the guidelines of Health Ministry.

Earlier on July 7, the Italian government decided not to allow any special flights to and from Italy after several Bangladeshi passengers of Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight tested positive for Covid-19 despite having documents certifying that they had tested negative and were safe to travel.
