DHAKA: The government has allocated Tk 58 crore to pay the state-run jute mill workers’ due wages for the month of June.

Earlier at a press briefing on Friday (July 3), Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi said workers’ wages for the month of June will be paid directly to their bank accounts within a week according to the National Wage and Productivity Commission-2015.

The fund was allocated for workers of all the jute mills, except Alim Jute Mill Ltd, registered under Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC), he said.

On Thursday (July 2), the government shut down all the 25 state-run jute mills registered under  BJMC due to renovation works.

Earlier in the morning, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made the decision after holding a meeting with officials concerned in Ganabhaban.
