DMCH rejects allegation of Tk20cr food bills for doctors

DHAKA: Authorities of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) have strongly denied the allegation of Tk20 crore in monthly food bills for the physicians and other health workers involved in the treatment of coronavirus patients.

DMCH Director Brig Gen AKM Nasir Uddin denied the accusation in a press briefing held at 12pm on Wednesday (July 1).

“It is undoubtedly a false allegation. That bills include hotel, transportation and food expenses of all health workers, nurses and physicians,” he said.

“We had to pay hotel bills for our health officials who were engaged in the treatment of COVID-19 infected patients since May 2.  A total of 30 hotels have been rented so far,” he said.

DMCH chief also said that the notion that physicians’ spent Tk20 crore in just food bills is absolutely baseless. “Why would a doctor buy a single banana at a cost of Tk1000? Such allegation is ridiculous and demeaning for the entire physician society,” the director added.

Senior physicians of DMCH were also present at the briefing.
