Covid-19: Bangladesh confirms death of 3 doctors on a single day

DHAKA: Three doctors died from Covid-19 on Wednesday (June 3) across the country, raising the death toll of doctors to six.

The deceased are Dr Mohammad Mohiuddin, a professor at the microbiology department of Ibrahim Medical College, Dr AKM Wahidul Hoque, retired evaluator officer of DG health and Dr Ehsanul Karim, Associate Professor of Chattogram Marine City Medical College.

Chattogram Medical College Hospital Deputy Director Dr Aftabul Islam and Foundation for Doctors’ Safety Rights and Responsibilities (FDSR) confirmed the to the media.

Dr Mohammad Mohiuddin breathed his last in hospital care at the capital’s Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital on Wednesday evening.

Earlier in the afternoon, doctor Ehsanul Karim of Marine City Medical College in Chattogram lost his battle with the coronavirus.

Dr AKM Wahidul Hoque was admitted at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital with respiratory problems on Tuesday. Later, he tested positive for coronavirus. He was taken to the ICU as his physical condition was deteriorated. He breathed his last on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at ICU.

With them, the number of doctors who died from COVID-19 in Bangladesh has reached six.

Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital’s Md Moyeen Uddin was the first physician to die in Bangladesh after contracting the novel coronavirus.

The two other victims of the virus in the profession are physician Dr Md Moniruzzaman of Anwer Khan Modern Hospital and physician Dr Abul Mokarim Md Mohsin Uddin of Ibn Sina Hospital.
