DHAKA: At least five coronavirus (Copvid-19) patients were reportedly burned to death in a fire incident at the United Hospital in Gulshan-2 area of the capital on Wednesday night.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire broke out around 9:55 pm at the isolation unit on the ground floor of the hospital located at the end of Road No. 2 .

However, the identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Being informed, three fire fighting units from Baridhara fire station rushed to the spot and started fighting to douse the fire, Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Brig Gen Sazzad Hossain told Banglanews.

The fire was brought under control around 10:25 pm after the hectic efforts, he added.

The fire might have originated from an explosion of the AC at the emergency department of the hospital leaving the five of the patients in corona isolation unit dead on the spot, Sazzad Hossain added.
