DHAKA: As part of its contribution to the government’s ongoing effort to tackle coronavirus situation, Bashundhara Group on Tuesday (April 07) provided 50,000 masks to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir handed over the safety item to DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam at the commissioner’s office in the capital around 11:30am.

Sayem Sobhan Anvir later told reporters: “This is for public purpose as the Bashundhara Group does not carry out public functions. We are business people. It (safety item) has to be distributed through organisations and this is our purpose, nothing else.”

He also said, "Those who work in the organisation (Police) need to remain safe, otherwise we will not be safe. Our objective of this distribution is to ensure their safety."

DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam thanked Bashundhara Group for their donation during the time of crisis.

Earlier on Monday, the leading business conglomerate of the country provided Rapid Action Battalion or (RAB) 50,000 masks and 1,400 packets of food to fight the coronavirus situation.
