DHAKA: The government has urged people to offer their daily prayers at homes instead of mosques to help contain the spread of coronavirus disease.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs called for keeping limited the participation of the devotees in Jummah at 10 and five-time regular prayers at 5.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs has issued an emergency notice on Monday (April 6) in this regard.

Only 5 persons including imam, muazzin, khatib, khadim can offer daily prayers at mosques while 5 more can join Jummah prayer, the ministry added.

The ministry also asked other religious believers not to congregate at any place to perform religious rituals rather they were asked to say prayers at home.

Earlier on Saturday, the Islamic Foundation urged all Muslims to say prayers on the night of the holy Shab-e-Barat at their respective homes in the wake of novel coronavirus outbreak.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh has so far confirmed 12 deaths from coronavirus disease.

Besides, 35 more people have tested positive, raising the total number of coronavirus cases in Bangladesh to 123, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) said on Monday.
