People’s expectation high from Bangladesh Pratidin

DHAKA: Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said as ‘Bangladesh Pratidin’ already completed 10 years of its journey, people have high expectations from the country’s most circulated Bangla daily. It is number one daily in New York and London also.

The chairman of the country's leading business conglomerate made the remarks while addressing the correspondents’ conference of Bangladesh Pratidin at Eastwest Media Group conference hall in Bashundhara residential area of the capital on Wednesday (Feb 26).

The Group Chairman said, "Every day readers want some changes in the news. Hundreds of dailies have been lost. It's a tough thing to survive in the competitive market in presence of online, television and radio. Basically, people’s expectation is high from Bashundhara Group.”

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan asked the correspondents to consult with the editor before making reports against anybody. “Many times, on behalf of one side, reports are being made attacking another side. It will never be tolerated. I want fact to be published. Bangladesh Pratidin does a lot of news everyday; many of those were not hailed. But the reports are real and true. Although many dailies have been lost, hundred years old newspapers including London Times, Financial News and The Washington Times still survive firmly,” he added.

He said the appeal of print media still exists in the midst of online, radio and television. We have to survive. We will move the country forward with the spirit of liberation war. Our newspaper will work branding Bangladesh. All positive news of the country should be presented before the world.

Editor of Bangladesh Pratidin Naem Nizam told the correspondents said that the print media of the country is going through tough times due to the dense, exclusive market of online. All must work together to face the challenge in order to survive at this time.

Editor of Kaler Kantho Imdadul Haq Milon hopes that Bangladesh Pratidin will get more and more success day by day.

Bangladesh Pratidin Executive Editor Pir Habibur Rahman called upon the journalists to discharge duties sincerely though it is a thankless job.
