Angelina Jolie hails PM Hasina on Rohingya Crisis

DHAKA: UNHCR special envoy Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie appreciated Bangladesh for the generosity and leadership it demonstrated in tackling the Rohingya crisis by writing a letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Angelina Jolie commended Bangladesh on giving shelter to the Rohingyas and ensuring safety and security for them.

The special envoy of the United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) sent the letter on February 21, as Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a release on Sunday (February 23).

The UNHCR would continue its efforts to engage with Myanmar to create suitable conditions for the sustainable return of the Rohingyas, the letter reads.

She also hoped that Bangladesh’s initiatives to get better funding for the Joint Response Plan (2020) for the Rohingya Humanitarian Crisis.

She committed to continue her advocacy for the humanitarian response for the Rohingyas and expressed gratefulness to the people of Bangladesh for all kinds of support.

Angelina Jolie visited Rohingya refugees in Kutupalong camp in Ukhia upazila of Cox’s Bazar on 5 February of 2019.
