Ex municipality councillor killed in Dinajpur ‘gunfight’

DINAJPUR: A former municipality councillor was killed in an alleged gunfight between two groups of drug peddlers in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur early Tuesday (Feb 18).

Ayub Ali, 55, son of Abdur Rahman of Rail Colonypara area was the former councillor of Setabganj municipality.

ATM Golam Rasul, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch (DB) of Dinajpur police, confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

He said a team of district DB police conducted a drive in Hatrampur Shalbagan area on early Tuesday. They heard the sound of gunfire between two groups of drug dealers and opened blank fire to disperse them.

Golam Rasul also said law enforces recovered the bullet-hit body of Ayub Ali from the spot and rushed him to M Abdur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Ayub Ali was a criminal and drug paddler and was accused in 19 cases, including drug dealing, trafficking and snatching, he said.

A one-shooter gun, 2 rounds of bullets, local weapons, 2 contrails and 200 pieces of Yaba pills were recovered from the spot, the OC added.
