Myanmar mustn’t overlook ICJ’s decision Yanghee Lee

DHAKA: The Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar Yanghee Lee urged for vigilance so that Myanmar could not overlook International Court of Justice (ICJ)’s decision. 

After wrapping up her Bangladesh and Thailand tours, Prof Lee was addressing a press conference at a hotel in Dhaka on Thursday (January 23).

Asked about her opinion on ICJ’s decision, she replied: “Whatever the decision come out from ICJ, we need to be vigilant so that Myanmar cannot get away with it. Myanmar needs to be held accountable.”

Asked about China-Russia's role in Rohingya issue at the UN Security Council, Yanghee Lee said Russia and China's role in the Security Council was shameful. China is now about to become a world leader. However, human rights must be respected in order to lead the world.

Lee visited Bangladesh and Thailand between January 15 and 23 to inspect Rohingya conditions. She came to Bangladesh from Thailand. She visited Rohingya camps. Besides, she sat in meetings with employees of public and private.
