DHAKA: The date for starting countdown to ‘Mujib Year’ has been changed to January 10, as it is marked as the historic Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the countdown centrally. It will also begin simultaneously in every district and upazila and all public gathering places.

The information was revealed at a view exchange meeting at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka on Wednesday (Dec 04).

The government earlier announced that the countdown will start from January 8, 2020.

State Minister for Information Md Murad Hassan attended the meeting as the chief guest while Chairman of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee Prof Rafiqul Islam presided over it.

Murad Hassan said the countdown to "Mujib Year" will begin on January 10 across the country ahead of the celebration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's birth centenary.

He called upon all, especially print and electronic media, to take all preparations to start the countdown for celebrating the birth centenary.

Chief Coordinator of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury moderated the meeting.

Senior Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division Md Sohorab Hossain, Information Secretary Abdul Malek and Public Administration Secretary Faiz Ahmed were present at the meeting.

Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Abul Kalam Azad, Editor of the Daily Observer Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Kaler Kantho Editor Imdadul Haq Milan, Banglanews24.com Editor Jewel Mazhar, Gazi TV Chief Editor Syed Ishtiaq Reza, Bonik Barta Editor Dewan Hanif Mahmud, Kaler Kantho Acting Editor Mostofa Kamal, Ekattor TV Chief Editor and Managing Director Mozammel Babu, News24 Head of News Rahul Raha and Bangladesh Pratidin Join Editor Abu Taher attended the programme.

Bangabandhu’s Birth Day on March 17 is also the National Children’s Day. On the day, various programmes including daylong art competition for children will be held across the country.

The opening ceremony of the 100th birth anniversary and Mujib Year at the city’s Suhrawardy Uddyan will be broadcast live from the venue, Chowdhury said. The celebration programmes will include dissemination of historical information and photo display on Bangabandhu’s life and work, attractive illumination and fireworks.
