DHAKA: Poet Jewel Mazhar has been honoured with Oihik Moitree Award - 2020 for his outstanding contribution to the Bengali literature for four decades.
Oihik, kolkata based literary organization, will hand over the award to the poet in Media Centre of Kolkata Book Fair on 6/7 February in 2020.
A team of Oihik comprising its editor Tomal Roy, poet Subrata Sarkar and Megh Adity visited Banglanews office in city’s Bashundhara area to give the announcement letter in this regard.
Oihik editor Tomal Roy told Banglanews that Jewel Mazhar is one of the most iconic poets in present day Bengali literature.
He said: “In his early youth, Jewel Mazhar started writing in his own style and mannerism. The man, through his masterful poetry, wonderfully depicts life and nature of Bengal infusing local colours and cadence.”
Jewel Mazhar was born in Kendua upazila of Netrakona in 1962. He was recognized for his books including poetic works - ‘Darjighare Ekrat’ (A Night at the Tailoring Shop) ‘Megasthenes-er Hasi’ and Diwana Zikir (Lunatic Chants - 2013, Shuddhaswar): Translated books ‘Kobitar Transtomar’ and ‘Durer Hawa’.
Journalist Jewel Mazhar is the editor of country’s leading online news portal Banglanews24.com.
On October 26 this year, Jewel Mazhar received Jibananda Poetry Award 2019 for his outstanding creative poetic works.
