DHAKA: The birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be celebrated in five major cities of India namely Delhi, Kolkata, Agartala, Chennai and Hyderabad marking the MUJIB Year.
The Indian Economic Trade Organization (IETO) in association with the Chittagong Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CWCCI) will arrange the grand celebration in 2020.
The IETO and CWCCI have signed an MOU recently to mark the centenary celebrations of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said a press release.
Following the visit of the CWCCI to Hyderabad last year and the current visiting delegation of the IETO to Bangladesh, Indo Bangla relations have no plans to let the big MUJIB YEAR slip by unnoticed.
IETO also announced the launch of the book on Bangabandhu, based on the Pakistani intelligence report on his political activities from 1947 to 1971. Two more books, one on the Agartala Conspiracy Case court proceedings and another on his visit to China in 1952, will also be launched once it is published by the Govt in Bangladesh.
The Indian celebrations will see programs such as essay, art, and cultural competitions that will be organized at various NGOs and some partner educational institutions throughout the Mujib Year. Rare pictures of him, will be displayed at various programs across these Indian cities.
Seminars and workshops on Bangabandhu will be held during the period.
The Foreign Ministry will arrange seminars and workshops on Bangabandhu at different universities across the world and India will be no exception.
“Our nation will celebrate historically significant days with great importance during this time in Bangladesh and we are happy to support IETO in the celebrations in India that will coincide many business partners having trade dialogues with Indian counterparts” said Monowara Hakim Ali, the chairperson of the CWCCI.
“India and Bangladesh partnership is truly a role model in South Asia and for the world. We In Indian side would like to offer all possible support to realise trade and Commerce in Bangladesh’s development agenda which is in India’s interest as well” said Dr. Asif Iqbal, President of the IETO who is leading the 15 member Indian Delegation to Bangladesh for the ceremony of the CWCCI Women International SME Expo.
The 1971 war saw Bangladesh being liberated and India’s support since then had been rock solid with bilateral relations peaking to its heights with Narendra Modi Govt pledging support to Bangladesh. India, a global brand, has always made a big deal out of its history grounded in red dust, its cultural values, and the outback.
And the early murmurs out of the visit of the Indian IETO delegation visit to Bangladesh suggest they are not going to let the centenary celebrations year in 2020 pass by quietly.
MUJIB Year 2020 celebrations will be held in countries including India, Russia, Germany, Sweden, Hungary, Poland, Nepal and Bhutan. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was popularly known as Bangabandhu, was the former President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
He had spearheaded the Bangladesh liberation struggle following which the country emerged as a sovereign nation from Pakistan in 1971.
