CHATTOGRAM: The key suspect in child specialist Dr Shah Alam murder case was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Sitakunda upazila of the district early Wednesday (Oct 23).
The deceased was identified as Najir Ahmed Sumon alias Kalu, 26, the leader of a robber gang.
Kazi Mohammad Tarek Aziz, assistant superintendent of police of RAB-7, said their team conducted a drive in Bashbaria around 4:15am to arrest Sumon. Criminals opened fire as soon as law enforcers reached the area which resulted a gunfight.
After the gunfight, the body of Sumon was recovered from the scene. They also recovered two firearms and 27 bullets, he added.
Earlier on Tuesday RAB arrested human hauler ‘Leguna’ driver Omar Faruk, 19, in connection with the murder.
According to his statement, Dr Shah Alam, who was found murdered on Dhaka-Chattogram highway on Friday, was victim of a mugging gang inside the moving human hauler.
