BGB deployed in Bhola after cop-villagers clash

BHOLA: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members have been deployed in Borhanuddin upazila of the district following deaths of four persons with bullets during clashes between police and locals here on Sunday (October 20).  

Members of the paramilitary force have been sent to the scene by a helicopter on an emergency basis to cope with the situation in the clash, BGB Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam on Sunday (October 20) told Banglanews.

In addition, a platoon Coast Guard member is working for law and order in Borhanuddin, Coast Guard media wing officer Kazi Faisal told Banglanews.

Locals announced a demonstration for Sunday centering on the Facebook post, but they faced resistance from police in Borhanuddin Secondary school area.  The resistance degraded into chaos and then severe confrontation. Police fired a few rounds of tear shells to tame the situation. Additional police were also deployed.

Biplab, a youth from Kachia union of the upazila, uploaded a post on Facebook, resulting in backlash against it from the entire upazila. Police detained the youth along with another person on Saturday.

Borhanuddin Police Station Sub Inspector (SI) Mohaminul Islam told Banglanews that he had heard of one person’s death at Borhanuddin Upazila Health Complex.

Shaheen, Family Planning Officer at Borhanuddin Upazila Health Complex told Banglanews that the bodies of Mahfuz and Mizan, who were shot dead in the clash, were brought to the hospital. Besides, a number of injured people have been admitted.
