COX’S BAZAR – A suspected drug dealer was killed in an alleged shootout with border guards in Teknaf upazila of the district early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Rahim uddin, 37, alias Rafique, son of Late Abdul Jalil of Moddhom Kanjor Para of the upazila.

Lt Col Mohammad Faisal Hassan Khan, commander of the 2 BGB Battalion of Teknaf confirmed the mater. 

On information that a big consignment of Yaba tables was coming from Myanmar through Naf river, a BGB patrol team of Unchiprang Camp took position at Modinar Jora khal area.

BGB jawans tried to stop a boat when it came near the bank of Naf river from Myanmar. The people on the boat opened fire on the BGB team and they retaliated in self-defence, according to Khan.

“Rafique was found on the ground with bullet wounds. He was taken to Cox’x Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead,” he said.

BGB recovered 60,000 Yaba pills, 3 cartridges and a sharp weapon from the scene.
