Man accused in 8 cases killed in Joypurhat ‘gunfight’

JOYPURHAT: A man, who was accused in eight cases, was killed in a reported gunfight with police on Chanpara-Shirtree road in Panchbibi upazila early on Friday (Oct 18).

The deceased was Aminul Islam Casset, son of Shahabul Islam of Piyara village in the upazila. 

Munsur Rahman, Officer-in-charge of Panchbibi upazila, told Banglanews that Casset among a group of people who were seen bargaining on Chanpara-Shirtree road around 3:00am. Noticing it, a patrol team of police went to the area and queried them. Later, they opened fire on police them, prompting them to retaliate on self defense.  

After the gunfight, Casset’s bullet–wounded body was found lying on the spot.  

Two policemen were also injured in the gunfight, police claimed.

One revolver, seven rounds of bullets and locally-made firearms were recovered from the spot.
