Hilsha fishing by Indian fishermen in Padma, BGB-BSF trade gunshots

RAJSHAHI: The exchange of gunshots took place between Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) when BSF members tried to take away an Indian fisherman detained by the BGB for catching hilsha in the Padma river in Rajshahi.

BSF claimed that one member of them was killed and another member injured during the firing that took place at the Charghat border in Rajshahi on Thursday (October 17).

However, nothing has been officially reported by the BGB and BSF over the incident so far.

According to local sources, three Indian fishermen were catching hilsha fish with current net in Padma River crossing the border.

Then, BGB members detained one of them. The two others escaped. Later, when BSF members arrived in the spot and tried to take away the detained fisherman, the firing took place between two forces.

Indian media reported that a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was killed, while another injured on Thursday in firing along Bangladesh border in West Bengal.

Meanwhile, senior BGB officials visited the spot. Additional BGB deployed at the border. Restriction has been imposed there on public movement.
