DHAKA: Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed for a feasibility study of the Metro Rail for Chattogram.
The minister said this while talking to reporters on contemporary issues at the Secretariat on Tuesday (October 15).
“The Prime Minister gave the directive during a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC),” Obaidul Quader said.
He said that the Prime Minister has directed him to take initiatives for a feasibility study of the Metro Rail (MRT Line) project in Chattogram.
“As per her directive, I have asked the Secretary of the Ministry and other persons concerned to go for the feasibility study of metro rail in Chattogram shortly. This is new info for the port city,” the minister added.
Speaking to reporters at the secretariat, Obaidul Quader also said that the main problem in Dhaka City is bagging traffic congestion. It is also a matter of great malice.
“Work on the MRT Line-6 in Metrorail is almost over. The feasibility study of MRT Line-5 and MRT Line-1 is also over. In these two projects, the majority of Tk 91,000 crore will be provided by the JICA of Japan.
