DHAKA: Bangladesh on Tuesday (Oct 15) handed over a fresh list of 50,000 Rohingyas to the Myanmar authorities for verification before their repatriation to their place of origin in Rakhine State.
Foreign Ministry sources said on Tuesday that Delwar Hossain, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Myanmar affairs), held a meeting with Myanmar Ambassador in Dhaka U Lwin Oo.
A fourth list of 4,000 Rohingya was handed over to the Myanmar at the meeting, which was held at the ministry. Myanmar will check this list.
Earlier on August 22, a second attempt to repatriate the thousands of Rohingya Muslims who fled from Myanmar to Bangladesh has failed as as many of the refugees are unwilling to go back.
The Myanmar government had approved more than 3,000 Rohingya to be brought back to the country as during the first repatriation attempt in November, no refugees agreed to voluntarily board the buses to Myanmar.
More than 700,000 Rohingya fled over to border to Bangladesh after a military-led crackdown in Rahkine state which saw villages razed, women raped and thousands killed.
