Journo Dil Monwara passes away, PM condoles

DHAKA: Veteran journalist, columnist Dil Monowara Monu passed away at a city hospital early on Monday (Oct 14). She was 69.

Family sources said she was taken to BIRDEM General Hospital after Sunday midnight with breathing complications where doctors pronounced her dead around 1:30am.

Her first namaj-e-Janaza is set to be held Lalmatia Bibir Mosque after Zuhr prayers. And then second janaza will be held on the Jatiya Press Club premises at 3:00pm. 

Later, her body will be taken to her organization ‘Kochi Kachar Mela’ premises. 

Monu, the former executive editor of fortnightly ‘Ananya’, will be buried at his family graveyard at Jurain in the capital city in afternoon.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her profound shock at the death of Dil Monowara Monu, former executive editor of the fortnightly feminist magazine “Ananya”.

In a condolence message, she also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.

Monu started her career in journalism in 1974 as a sub-editor with ‘Begum’ magazine edited by Begum Sufia Kamal and Nurjahan Begum.

Later, she joined fortnightly ‘Anayna’ as executive editor and was with the magazine for 25 years.
