Bomb-making lab busted at Narayanganj militant den

NARAYANGANJ: Neo JMB men used the house located in Fatullah of Narayanganj where police conducted raid from Monday morning as “bomb-making labs” from where explosives were supplied for the recent attacks on police in Dhaka.

Militants who were detained during the raid at militant den have link with recent attacks, police said.

However, no one was living there. A large amount of bomb making equipment, IEDs, explosives, toy pistols, and machete were recovered from the house.

The operation was ended at the house of former Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Bangladesh Bank Joynal Abedin at Pilkuni Tokkar Math area of Fatullah at 2:30 pm.

Earlier in the morning, Fariduddin Rumi, 27, and Jamal Uddin, 23, sons of house owner Joynal Abedin and Fariduddin's wife Jannatul Foara Anu, 22, an officer of Agrani Bank, were taken into custody for questioning, said Monirul Islam, the head of the CTTC unit.

The head of the CTTC unit, said that huge explosives were found in the house. At least 15 to 20 bombs (IEDs) could have been made with the recovered explosives.

Another person was arrested from Dhaka and his identity is not confirmed, he said.

Multiple police sources present in the raid from the beginning said that after entering the house, several powerful bombs, a large number of bomb making equipments, IEDs, explosive-making materials, toys, pistols and various tools were found. It was used as a bomb-making lab.

Earlier in the day, three powerful bombs have been blasted at the ‘militant den’ when Bomb Disposal Unit members of police took control of the house.

Huge sound of explosions was heard at 12:57pm, 1:10 pm and 1:24 pm.

Police and the Detective Branch (DB) have started raiding a house suspecting it a militant den in Tokkar Math area of Fatullah here on Monday.

Meanwhile, a bomb disposal unit entered the house of a former bank officer Joynal Abedin around 10:30am, Inspector of Narayanganj District Police Sajjad Rumon told Banglanews.

The members of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) cordoned off the house around 4am acting on a tip-off that militants were hiding there.

Besides, 17 houses adjacent to the suspected militant den were searched during the drive, Sajjad Rumon added.
