Rohingya couple killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

COX’S BAZAR: A Rohingya couple was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Leda Rohingya camp hilly area of the district early Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Dil Mohammad, 32, and his wife Zaheda, 27, residents of Block C of the camp.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station, told Banglanews that the law enforcers arrested them on charges of drug peddling on Saturday noon.

As soon as police took them to 24 Number camp of the hilly area to recover firearms on early Sunday, a gang of Rohingya criminals opened fire, triggering a gunfight.

The couple was severely injured in the gunfight. When, they were taken to Teknaf Hospital, doctors declared them dead.

The bodies were sent to the Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police also recovered two light guns from the spot, the OC added.

Besides, three policemen - ASI Nizam, constables Shahadat and Sudarshan - were injured in the incident. They are undergoing treatment at Teknaf Hospital.
