Separate police unit for Dhaka Metro Rail Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed the authorities concerned to form a separate police unit for the safety of Dhaka Metro Rail.

The premier came up with the directive during a review meeting on the progress of implementation of the Metro rail project at Ganabhaban on Monday (September 16).

Referring to the presence of separate security units for Metro rail across the world, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said special police units must be set up for the security of Metro rail.

The premier also directed the authorities concerned to begin formation of separate police unit for Metro rail from now on.

She said: “There is not much time left. We have to start working on it now.”

The prime minister, at the meeting, asked the chief executive officer of the National Security Cell, Asaduzzaman Mia, to look into the formation of a Metro rail police unit.

During the meeting, M.A.N Siddique, Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited presented PowerPoint presentation on the progress of Metro rail.

It is also reported that Metro rail will go into commercial operation by December of 2021.

The Prime Minister carefully monitored everything of the Metro rail and gave necessary directions. She also gave necessary solutions and guidance on small issues.

MP Shahjahan Khan, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Najibur Rahman, Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office Sajjadul Hasan, Secretary to the Department of Road Transport and Highways also Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited Chairman Nazrul Islam, Secretary to Defense Ministry Akhtar Hossain Bhuiyan, Chief Executive Officer of the National Security Cell, former Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Asaduzzaman Mia, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
