DHAKA: Human rights activist advocate Sultana Kamal said more people are killed in road accidents than epidemic.

She made the remarks while addressing a press conference organized by Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity at the Jatiya Press Club on Friday (September 13).

Sultana Kamal said: “The current tendency in society is to put someone’s blame on someone else’s. Roads are not good, traffic police take bribe. Besides, I hear of many more problems. But the point is..why passengers would have to suffer because of these.”

“None of us are performing their duty from his/her position. The responsibility and the blame are always put on the others. We do not try to find out what causes accidents.

Those who are in responsible positions are getting away with not performing duties. All this is possible due to lack of good governance,” she also said.

She said: “Safety of the passengers must be ensured through performing duties by everyone involved in roads, regardless of their position. It is a question of the security of human lives. It is a question of human well-being, a question of human dignity.”
