Grenade attack masterminds to get highest punishment: Quader Obaidul Quader talks to reporters

DHAKA: Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said maximum punishment will be ensured for the masterminds of gruesome August 21, 2004 grenade attack. 

He was talking to reporters after placing tributes to Awami Mohila League former president Ivy Rahman at Banani Graveyard, marking her 15th death anniversary Saturday (August 24) morning.

"Ivy Rahman was an uncompromising one in the struggle for democracy. She was a star to the women in Bangladesh's politics," Quader said remembering Ivy who was among the August 21 victims.

"The verdict of August 21 grenade attack has been delivered. Now the hearing will take place in the High Court. We have to wait for the full verdict," he added. 

Mentioning that the mastermind of the grenade attack BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will be brought back and exposed to highest punishment, the bridges minister said appeal will be filed with the court to ensure maximum punishment. 

Awami League Joint General Secretaries Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif and Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Advisory Council members Inam Ahmed Chowdhury, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Shipping Minister Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and Awami League Dhaka division unit leaders, among others, accompanied Obaidul Quader.
