DHAKA: Members of the Hindu community are observing Janmashtami across the country on Friday (August 23), marking the birth of Lord Krishna, with due religious fervour.

According to Hindu religion, Lord Vishnu incarnated in the universe as Lord Krishna in the prison of Raja Kangsa on this day, the eighth of ‘Shukla Pakkha’ (bright fortnight) in the month of Bengali calendar Bhadra in Dwapara Yuga in order to protect ‘Dharma’ from the hands of devils.

Sri Krishna was born to Devaki and her husband Vasudeva in Mathura to which Krishna’s parents belonged.

Hindu community members will bring out processions in the capital in afternoon to be paraded through Palashi-Jagannath Hall-Central Shaheed Minar-Doyel Circle-High Court  intersection-National Press Club-Paltan-Shahid Noor Hossain Square-Golap Shah Mazar-Gulistan Road-Nawabpur Road-Roy Saheb Bazar which will end at Bahadur Shah Park displaying the eventful life of Krishna.

Different social, cultural and religious organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe Janmashtami.

President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in separate messages greeted the members of Hindu community on the occasion of Janmashtami.

On the occasion of Janmashtami, the Puja Celebration Council of Bangladesh and the Public Worship Committee of the metropolis will conduct a two-day program centrally at Dhakeswari National Temple.

Recitation of verses from Srimat Bhagabat Geeta will be held on Friday morning seeking divine blessings for world peace and people’s welfare.  On the occasion of Janmashtami, a discussion will also be organized at Dhakeswari National Temple on September 1.

Besides, national dailies have published special articles while Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television and other private TV channels and radio stations are airing special programmes highlighting different aspects of the eventful life of Lord Krishna.
