Jaishankar leaves Dhaka

DHAKA: Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar left Dhaka for New Delhi after wrapping up his three-day official tour to Bangladesh at the invitation of his Bangladesh counterpart Dr AK Abdul Momen.

In a twitter message, he said “Leaving Dhaka this morning after productive discussions with FM @AKAbdulMomen. Thank PM Sheikh Hasina for receiving me. Good to see our ties on such a positive trajectory.”

Foreign Minister of Bangladesh saw off his Indian counterparty at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday (August 21) morning. State minister for Foreign affairs Shahriar Alam and Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Riva Ganguly Das, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Delhi Syed Moazzem Ali was also present.

S. Jayashankar came to Dhaka on August 19 for a three-day visit. After his arrival Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen received him at the airport.

Earlier on Tuesday (August 20) after a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen at the State Guest House Jamuna, Dr S Jaishankar said that India was committed to solving Teesta issue as it earlier promised.

“India is firm in its previous stance regarding this agreement (Teesta),” Dr S Jaishankar said.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina to India.

Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar handed the invitation over to the premier at her official residence-Ganabhaban on Tuesday.
