Tributes paid to August 21 grenade attack martyrs

DHAKA: The nation recalled the 15th anniversary of the August 21 grenade attack of 2004 with a heavy heart paying glowing tributes to the martyrs by placing wreaths at a temporary memorial erected in front of party central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.

Leaders of the ruling Bangladesh Awami League, its associate and likeminded bodies and other political parties, socio-cultural-professional organisations placed wreaths at alter of the memorial for August 21 grenade attack martyrs Wednesday (August 21) morning. 

At first, on behalf of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, party's general secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader paid homage to the altar at 9:00am.

After paying tribute to on behalf of Sheikh Hasina, a minute of silence was observed in remembrance of the martyrs. 

Awami League central leaders then paid their respects to the martyrs. At that time, Leaders of the ruling Bangladesh Awami League, its associate and likeminded bodies also paid their respects to the August 21 martyrs.

After paying tribute to the central leaders of the Awami League, the 14-party alliance leaders also paid tribute. Convener of the alliance Mohammad Nasim, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSaD) president Hasanul Haque Inu and Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua were present on the occasion.

After this, Dhaka City Awami League (South and North), Workers Party, JaSad, Chhatra League, Jubo League, Shechchasebok League, Sramik League, Juba Mahila League, Mahila Awami League, Krishak League, Tanti League, associate organisations of the Awami League, including Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad (Swachip) paid respect to martyrs.
